The two opposition groups, Arena Tigray for Democracy and Sovereignty and Tigray Democratic Coalition Party (TAND), headed by Aregay Berhe, the founding member of TPLF, to come together to form a merger.
The parties have signed an agreement which allows them to form a merger, yesterday in Addis Ababa, according to Amedom Gebresilase, head of Arena Tigray for Democracy and Sovereignty.
The agreement is signed between Goitom Tsegaye, deputy chair of Arena and Gidey Zeratsion deputy chairperson of TAND.
According to the leaders, the two-party Arena and TAND were working together to form merger based on the country law.
The parties have reached into an agreement on the majority of their programs after reviewing their policies.
The merger of the two parties aimed at building a strong alternative is great news for the people of Tigray, according to a statement from the two parties.
Before the merger agreement Arena and TAND had positive cooperation in some areas, the statement recalls.
